Most likely a codec issue. You could also try a different media player. You can often use MPC with haali media splitter , ffdshow , and ac3filter for mkv playback without any issues on most files. Also note that most users trying to play mkv files are playing HD mkv files which are very hardware dependant (ie: fast cpu).
